Dr. Frank E. Cummins
August 7, 1943 – December 18, 2017
Passed away peacefully on Monday, December 18th, 2017 in the presence of his loving wife, Marilyn, and family. He was born on Aug. 7th, 1943 in Elkhart, Indiana to Frank Daniel and Ellen (Erickson) Cummins. He will be forever remembered by his four children: Megan, Jon (Caroline) Cummins, Katy Cummins (Brett) Bakko, Frank Daniel (Sarah) Cummins II, and seven grandchildren.
After graduating from Hanover College and the Indiana University School of Medicine, he completed his internship, residency, and cardiology fellowship in Milwaukee in conjunction with the Medical College of Wisconsin. From 1974-76, he served in the U.S. Air Force as director of the cardiac catheterization lab at Andrew’s Air Force Base. He practiced interventional cardiology for many years and served as director of the St. Luke’s Medical Center Coronary Care Unit and director of the Circulatory Dynamics Lab. He was also founder and medical director of the Cardiovascular Research Group. As an active investigator in the development of cardiovascular devices, his work received both local and national attention, and he co-authored many publications; he sought to share his knowledge and expertise with everyone. “Dr. Frank” loved his work; his patients were his “partners.” On the golf course, he was a generous giver and taker of mulligans. He loved golfing, bicycling, cross country skiing, watching the Packers, and making happy memories with wonderful friends.
The family wishes to thank all of his caregivers and visitors along his journey: especially, Dr. Laura McGartland, Dr. Gerald Auger, and Rev. Laura McLeod for his medical and spiritual care.
Visitation at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Additional visitation at Brookfield Congregational Church, 16350 Gebhardt Road, Brookfield, Wisconsin on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 10:00 AM until time of Service at 11:00 AM.
