Dennis K. Lyon, 77, was born on March29th, 1943 in Elkhart to the late Jack and Edith (Landis) .He died Wednesday morning, June 24, 2020 at his home in Elkhart .
He married his high school sweetheart Barbara Joan Zimmerman in 1961 and they shared 59 years of marriage together. He graduated fom Elkhart High School in1961 and attended Tri-State College.
He is survived by his wife Barb: children, Jeffery (Theresa) Lyon and Tracy (Paul) Gleissner; five grandchildren, Steven Gleissner, Allison (Derrick) DeShone, Bradley (Samar) Lyon, Melissa Gleisner and Hillary (Dustin ) Dreifurst; Also his five great-grandchildren Harrison and Lily Dreifurst, and Hayden, Maddox and Taum DeShone; brother Timothy Lyon and sister Rhonda ( David Powell; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dennis began his surveying career with Ray Pharis Engineering and then became owner of G&L Surveying. He sold the business to Progressive Engineering and continued ffieldwork surveying. He retired in 2015 from the Elkhart County Surveyor’s Office. He was seving on the Board of Zoning Appeals as a hearing officer and as a member of the Planning Commission, With Barb, he owned the Hair Barn for 15 years. He was a charter member of the Elkhart Evening Optimist Club and a member of St. Mary’s of the Annunciation Catholic Church.
