It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dave Mount on April 20, 2023 at the age 80 while at his home in Marco Island, FL. He and his wife, Mary Ellen, wintered in the 4000 Riviera building, in Hideaway, Marco Island, Florida since 1997 and summered on Diamond Lake in Cassopolis, MI. Dave was a beloved family member who touched the lives of many with his uncanny business acumen, leadership, humor, and intellect.
Born in South Bend, March 2nd, 1943, he spent his youth, fiercely independent, honing his ability to turn a profit and pushing limits to accomplish his goals. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Indiana University and his MBA at Western Michigan University. He used all of this innate talent and training, along with financing from selling coffee and Kirby vacuum cleaners door to door, to create Modular Plastics (MTS Products) manufacturing molded musical instrument, government, and commercial cases. He later purchased Goshen Case Company, manufacturing wood instrument cases and Bullfrog speakers. With his business partner Nick, he developed the successful real estate company N & D. He was deeply passionate about investing and often out performed experts to their great chagrin. Dave also had a deep passion for the art of working deals and verbal repartee.
In his free time he enjoyed boating. He became a certified boat captain and was often referred to as Captain Dave. Whether taking out the Nautique on Diamond Lake or at the helm of a 50’ with his Marco Bay Yacht Club group, he was often happiest at sea.
