Anthony J. Iemma, 82, of Elkhart, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born January 21, 1943, in Elkhart to the late Dominic J. and Lillian M. (Russo) Iemma. Also preceding him in death are a sister, Mary Sue Whittaker and a brother, Samuel Iemma.
On July 24, 1965, in Elkhart, Tony married Sandra S. Fisher. Sandy survives along with a daughter, Alexandra (Brian) Katzen of Portland, Oregon and two sons; Dominic (Shannon) Iemma and Tony Iemma, both of Elkhart. Also surviving are five granddaughters, one great granddaughter and a brother, Michael (Kathy) Iemma of Fort Myers, FL. He is also survived by his faithful dog, Bugsy.
Tony served as Elkhart County Deputy Prosecutor under the guidance of his friend and mentor, Michael Cosentino. Following his tenure as Deputy Prosecutor, he practiced law in downtown Elkhart over the next four decades. Tony attended Elkhart High School, where he was affectionately known as “Butch”. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton and his Law Degree from Ohio Northern University. In addition to practicing law, Tony served on the board of directors and as corporate counsel for numerous local corporations, including Atlas Steel Rule Die and Mercury Displacement Industries, where he was also a founding partner. Emulating his father’s entrepreneurial spirit, Tony was a real estate developer and an innovative investor. Most recently, he held the position of President and CEO of Zuccari USA, the American subsidiary of an international health products company.
Tony was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Italian American Relief Association (I.A.R.A.). He was also affiliated with the Indiana State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Tony previously enjoyed spending his leisure time as his condominium in St. Joseph, Michigan, where he delighted in hosting family and friends and taking them on extended cruises around Lake Michigan aboard his cherished yacht, the Rebecca II. Tony will be missed by many for his generosity, infectious smile and wry sense of humor.
Visitation for Tony will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 5 pm until 7 pm at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Friends may also call Thursday from 10 am until the hour of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Reverend Sam Anderson will officiate and entombment will be at Rice Cemetery.
